« …but only by losing myself in it like an object.» Jacques Lacan
Overview

Illustration and Identity for a series of seminars about writing and its relations to sexuality and chastity.
The typographic illustration is a rereading of the Venus (From The Birth of Venus, Sandro Botticelli) constructed by placing lines from an Italo Calvino’s text. I chose to use the image of the Venus, because as the goddess of love, she symbolizes virtue, beauty and chastity.
The part of text used (portuguese translation) is quoted next:
« The polymorphic visions of the eyes and the spirit are contained in uniform lines of small or capital letters, periods, commas, parentheses – pages of signs, packed as closely together as grains of sand, representing the many-colored spectacle of the world on a surface that is always the same and always different, like dunes shifted by the desert wind.» ― Italo Calvino
